A slow paced version of the beautiful game.

The benefits of playing Walking Football regularly
Playing Walking football regularly at VIKINGS can offer numerous health benefits for players aged 50 and over, including improved cardiovascular health, better balance and coordination, and enhanced mental well-being. It’s a social activity that can boost self-esteem and provide a sense of community.
The nature of the game, which is essentially non-contact, makes it accessible to everyone 50+, including individuals with physical limitations, while the focus on technical skills like passing and positional play keeps our sport engaging and enjoyable for all.

The History of Walking Football
Walking football originated in 2011 in Chesterfield as a training drill and a way to engage older men in physical activity and combat social isolation. The sport, which prohibits running, quickly gained local traction but rose to national prominence in July 2014 after being featured in a Barclays Bank television commercial. This exposure was a pivotal moment, significantly increasing its visibility and inspiring its rapid adoption across the UK.
Following this surge in popularity and from its quite humble beginnings, walking football has now evolved into a global phenomenon, played in over 55 countries with thousands of clubs and tens of thousands of participants, offering a modified, inclusive, and beneficial way for both men and women 50+ to enjoy playing and benefitting from what Walking Football has to offer, well beyond when they may well have expected that they wouldn’t grace the playing field ever again (in fact, at VIKINGS we boast players in their 50s, 60s, 70s and, yes, even a few inspirational characters in their 80s!).
